I am excited – I have never blogged before, and this is going to be fun!
The first thing you need to do, is read the “about” section. That explains about the house and about the blog.
This first post is mostly to bring you up to date. I am going to try and post something at least once a week, as we only seem to get a lot of work done on weekends. Oh, and weekends to me are Sunday/Monday, as I own a retail business, and am open on Saturday.
We bought the house on May 2nd. After emptying all the kitchen boxes and most of our clothes etc., we had to get the plumber in to have the galvanized piping in the house changed. The insurance company would not insure the house with the galvanized in place, and try getting a mortgage with no insurance.
Mmmm, seems like I will have to split the first few posts into 2 sections – one on catch-up and one on what we did this past week.
So, on to this past week. We have the retail section downstairs, in what was (and will be) the living/dining room, and we are using the large bedroom upstairs as our living-room. There were 3 layers (at least) of wallpaper, with a coat of paint on top just to finish it off. Since Boxing Day, we have been scraping first the paint off, then the layers of wallpaper. I found that the easiest way to get the wallpaper off was to half-fill a spray bottle with hot water and a few drops of Sunlight; squirt the paper and let it soak in. Take off the outer layer; re-squirt; take off the second layer; re-squirt, and remove, with a scraper, the last layer. I finished removing the paper on Monday (YAY!), and DH has since washed the walls down with TSP and filled in the holes with drywall compound. A good sanding, 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of top paint, and we will be done (remember we started Boxing Day!) Then it will be on to the floors, and baseboard. But, I am getting ahead of myself here – all in good time, and I will save the good bits for a later post.
